Most travelers visit Sarangkot, Nepal, to witness its world-famous sunrise over the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountain ranges. However, our journey to Sarangkot revealed another magical experience—one that unfolds long before the first rays of sunlight touch the Himalayan peaks.

We left Pokhara while the city was still wrapped in darkness, heading toward Sarangkot in the early hours of the morning. The winding mountain road gradually carried us higher and higher above the valley. With every turn, the breathtaking panorama of Pokhara became more spectacular.

From the hillside, the city below shimmered like a sea of stars. Thousands of lights illuminated the streets, homes, hotels, and lakeside neighborhoods, creating an enchanting tapestry against the darkness. The quiet beauty of the sleeping city, surrounded by rolling hills, was simply mesmerizing.

Sometimes, the most unforgettable view comes before sunrise, when a city quietly glows beneath a starlit sky.

The sky was slowly changing its colors. Deep blue faded into shades of purple and soft pink along the eastern horizon, signaling that dawn was not far away. The cool mountain breeze, the silence of the hills, and the sparkling city lights combined to create a peaceful atmosphere that words can hardly describe.

As we continued our ascent, we found ourselves stopping several times just to admire the view. It was one of those rare moments when nature reminds us to slow down and appreciate the beauty that often exists between night and day. Although we were eager to witness the famous Himalayan sunrise, the night view of Pokhara from Sarangkot had already become an unforgettable highlight of our journey.

Standing at the Sarangkot viewpoint before sunrise, we realized that this place offers much more than its celebrated morning spectacle. It presents a unique transition—from a city glowing under the night sky to a valley gradually awakening beneath the golden light of dawn.

For photographers, this is a dream location. The sparkling lights of Pokhara, the silhouettes of the surrounding hills, and the colorful pre-dawn sky provide endless opportunities to capture stunning images. Yet, no photograph can truly recreate the emotion of standing there, feeling the crisp mountain air, and watching the city slowly welcome a new day.

If you plan to visit Sarangkot, try arriving at least an hour before sunrise. You’ll be rewarded not only with one of Nepal’s most famous sunrises but also with an extraordinary night view of Pokhara—a peaceful and magical experience that deserves just as much admiration.
